RECIPIENT: Riftwatch at large
NOTES: Warning for addiction & medical chat, will update for anything else.

Good morning, Riftwatch.

[Barrow is all business, perhaps in an effort to bulldoze through what’s otherwise an uncomfortable topic:]

Just wanted to give you all fair warning that I’ll be out of commission for an… unknown duration of time— short hopefully— as I work my way off lyrium.

If you have need of anything to do with the training yard or the siege weaponry, you can speak to Jayce Talis in my stead. And I suppose if… you have any logistical questions, you can ask the head healer, Stephen Strange.

[he falls silent a moment, awkwardly unsure if more needs saying, then:]

Um. That’s all.
laruetheday: they're just pizza that's harder to eat. (calzones are pointless.)

Why would you do that?
laruetheday: who's the idiot now? (ha! it was english i took twice.)

[personal profile] laruetheday 2025-01-20 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
It makes you stronger, doesn't it?
laruetheday: robins @ insanejournal (they pick on you? can you introduce me?)

I'm sure you have your reasons.

The cost of the strength is his mind. Lyrium dementia is a slow, unpleasant death that on a Riftwatch salary he probably doesn’t have the coin to ensure he’s not enduring on the streets. He’d be forced into retirement long before it got that bad, and we don’t have a retirement package.

( pointing this out privately instead of loudly in barrow’s hearing is gwenaëlle’s idea of tact. )
laruetheday: emotion could be a weapon? (you didn't realize)

[ wow what the fuck? ]

Shit! He definitely needs to quit, then.

Well, three down. Two and a half.

( three for sure if barrow succeeds, and he’s got better odds here than anywhere else, seems like. )

It’s shit to go through, though. If you’re close, he’ll need all the help he can get. Sometimes just someone sitting through the delirium seemed to help Orlov.
laruetheday: robins @ insanejournal (by night? i do whatever i want. no job.)

I'll offer, but he might not want me around. He said no to Abby already.

Best to let him lead that, but he might feel differently in the thick of it.
laruetheday: (i'd like your $8-est bottle of wine.)

[personal profile] laruetheday 2025-01-21 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Got it. I'll check on him, you know, during.

Lyrium trade is tightly controlled. That means that those who use lyrium are, likewise, controlled.
laruetheday: i'm gonna have to be a robber. (i'm never gonna be a cop.)

Right... [ she's learning many things today. ]

Okay, so what do we do? To help.
bouchonne: (drunken pontificating)

[personal profile] bouchonne 2025-01-20 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas; there's little we can do. We must simply trust in Barrow.
laruetheday: ... maybe the whole suburb. (the best in the whole school...)

[personal profile] laruetheday 2025-01-20 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Understood.

[ she doesn't like it, though. ]
