Hey, if we cut an eluvian in half, will it still work? Because imagine. If we could strap one to a griffon, we could be anywhere, and only one person would have to do the traveling. Or we could strap one to the bottom of a griffon and fly low over a battlefield or a lake and people could jump through without the griffon even needing to land—

[ Or maybe that's just her personal paratrooper fantasy, parachute part PENDING, RESEARCH. ]

I think we could be thinking bigger here. Or smaller. But in a big way.

Maybe, ( thoughtful. even odds that she'd also taken all of her notes with her when she left because she's selective about who she trusts, but: ) If they're here, research will have them.

That would be the first step, then. [ Not condescending, she's not teaching Captain Baudin a lesson here in notes-checking, but - a bit amused by all the above, so adds, ]

So you can have your jumping out of half an eluvian on an air ship.

Oh, I'm confident we can put an entire eluvian on an airship, I think I could feasibly fit one in my houseboat if pressed—

( they totally don't even need to halve one for that, they just need the damn airship, nerds. )

Based on nothing but conversation up until this point, I feel like you would enjoy flying brooms.

I do like anything that can get me high.

( she has done a lot of drugs but that isn't what she means. this time. )

When the Venatori attacked, actually, I stole one of their flying dracolisks. She breathes fire, too.

Such as Elfwood? [ You think she's not going to keep a living record of every interaction and remember everything for later, you'd be wrong. Her very first words (to her knowledge anyway) to Hermione were that elfwood got you high. ]

Does she have a name?

Elfroot, ( helpfully, heroically managing not to say something like elfwood you have to ask the elf very nicely for)

and her name is Bellerose, now. I don't know if she had one before that, but now.

Similarly enjoyable, but you want to keep your head at those heights.

[ The mortificating ordeal of being incorrect. Terrible. ]

Bellerose, then. Does that mean beautiful rose in Orlesian?

Ouais. It's the surname of one of my uncles— he'd have loved a winged dracolisk and some eluvians in his soldiering days, I'm sure. Left it for the arts when he could.

[ Ouais. Listen, she has to derail the conversation here for a small bit, because, ] Are there any Orlesian to Trade dictionaries? Because strangely enough there are so many words in the language that I can recognise from [ school, pre-k, the fact that her parents were dentists living in the Hampstead Garden district and most definitely had the money to send little Hermione to French classes before the Hogwarts letter came? ] home.

Mmm, I can get you one— if the library doesn't have one, I'm sure I do—

( thoughtfully. )

People have observed before, some of our languages are like to rifted ones; not one to one, not perfectly intelligible both ways, but recognisable, similar.

I'll look in the library!

[ Please don't concern yourself for her sake, go back to fighting your partner (????) about flying houseboats. ]

But also, going back to Bellerose. It makes it a little bit of a pun, given the spikes on some dracolisks - her thorns.

We've just got to be sure she remembers which side she's on when pressed, but I've been trying to socialise her a bit with the griffons where we're able and I think it's helping.

Right, so. You're deprogramming a little dragon, at personal risk, because you like to fly.

You would definitely enjoy a flying broomstick, I think I'm right.
