What with the new faces recently, I’ve been working on the medical curriculum and refreshing the infirmary’s recordkeeping. It’s high time to establish some better-kept patient files.

To that end, we’ve provided a written questionnaire at the infirmary — thank you to Amsel for her neat penmanship — and I’d appreciate it if you could fill out a form for yourself and drop it off. The records will only be referenced by healers in the course of their duties, and otherwise locked away; your personal details will remain private. Having as much information as possible will only help the healers take care of you properly.

Good question —

If something were to happen to me and Riftwatch takes on a new Head Healer, I don’t want your issue to fall by the wayside and be abandoned, but your trust and comfort is also important.

I’m thinking either I can seal your particular records so only the Head Healer will ever have access, or I could keep them entirely separate so no one else can see them, and you’d have to start from scratch and approach a new Head Healer on your own. Which would you prefer?

(Gela is currently hunched over her crystal as if her hair, loose and down around her, can keep the sound of it contained. But he can't see her nodding; she clears her throat.) The... second option, if that's okay.

On that note, my apologies I haven’t been able to follow up as thoroughly as I’d like, ( the Gallows fell down, stuff’s been happening ) but I have kept reading in the hopes of finding out more about your condition. The closest I could find was an Ander account about a Hunger demon possession, but ultimately that doesn’t seem pertinent.

You haven’t had any other episodes lately? And also: how do dogs feel about you?

But — please, don't apologise. It means so much to me that you're looking and doing research at all. I spent a very long time traveling many places, and asking around, and reading books and talking indirectly to healers, and learning not a lot.

(And, like he said, stuff has been happening.)

I haven't had any other episodes. And dogs don't seem to like me at all. (Of course, this is because Gela herself is terrified of them and never reacts well to their being around; doubtlessly they pick up on this.) Is that... relevant?

Might be, might not be. There’s some lore implying that some of the reason Fereldans are so fond of keeping mabari might be to sense a wolf in human form. There’s a Fereldan fable called Dane and the Werewolf, about a hundred-odd years old, which mentions the idea, but it might also just be folkloric superstition. Storytellers spinning yarns for flavour, and such.

Any odd dreams worth reporting yet?

Nothing out of the ordinary. I've been writing things down, as you suggested.

It's my worst fear, that it might ever happen again, especially here. So, no. I haven't ever tried to do it on purpose.

Not now — not anytime soon, to your comfort — but if we keep running into dead ends, that’s probably a reasonable next step. Attempting it under controlled conditions, with backup and locked doors, a safe space. If you learned to control it, it wouldn’t be such a terrifying unknown.
