[ The voice speaking into the crystal is recognizably girlish. Because it is a truth universally acknowledged that no matter the world, no matter the era, no matter whether it's magic or technology driving it, when a new communications method has been invented, teenage girls will be the earliest adopters. ]

Oh, hello -

[ That's a dwarvish accent, too, for those of you playing along at home. ]

Is this actually working? Hello, hello - Hello - [ That last bit is said a little louder, like she's calling over a distance. But thank your lucky stars: she trusts the mages who told her about them and speaks normally for the next bit. ]

Well, either it is working, and I'm talking to all of you, or it's not, and the cat sitting across from me gets to hear a crazy girl sounding crazy for a while. So. This is Kitty, your favorite barmaid at the Herald's Rest, announcing that we have just gotten in a shipment of West Hill brandy. If you've never tried this stuff, I've been told that it has the aroma of blackcurrants, honey, slight notes of hay...and it'll knock you right off your feet. Come down, bring your coin, have a nip, forget just how cold these nights in the Frostbacks get.

[ And, then, with a grin: ]

What, like the first use of this system wasn't going to be drumming up business? Get real.

[ So it does speak. And here he thought he had lifted this thing for pawning a fine fake later. Curious. And useful! He may very well go back and deposit some coin for it.

How might you say this measures up in comparison to an Antivan brandy? I've yet to find one that stood up to my satisfaction.

[ Oh - And a voice coming back in response. Kitty gives a little laugh of astonishment and delight before turning back to her duties. ]

Well, they're different, definitely.

[ She hasn't had either one. ]

It's hard to say which one's better, though. I mean, it all comes down to your individual palate, right? So the only one who can answer that question is you.

I suppose I must come in and sample the wares myself. After all, it is never too early in the day for brandy and the smile of a charming barmaid.

[ She sounds quite charming and quite enterprising, two things he very much enjoys in a woman. ]

And having good company in the bar certainly would make me smile. So I expect you'll get both. You know how to find us?

I think I shall be able to find my way. Save a glass of this brandy for me and I might even play something for you.

The lute and the flute, that I do. It's one way to pass the time on the road and earn a bit of coin- or add a little flair to a tavern that may be in need of it.

Oh, that's lovely. We could use flair. The company here is grand, but it's still a little empty as of yet. Filling it with music would go quite a ways towards making it homier.

Something to warm the soul in these difficult times. For a bit of that Brandy and, perhaps, the promise of a hot meal? I can spend my evening there if you like.

We've got a stew on. I don't think it'd be so hard to get you a bowl.

[There's a soft, pleased 'huh' sound on the other end as the receiver finally makes use of the crystal. At least she knows it works now. When she speaks, her own accent is more akin to that of a Marcher. (Not Starkhaven, though.)]

It takes a lot to knock me off my feet -most human brews aren't enough- but I'm willing to give it a try. You're not kidding about the cold, and some company along with the brandy would definitely be welcome.

Well, fortunately for you, Lady, the company at the Herald's Rest is actually the best in all of Skyhold. You can ask anyone, and they'll either say yes or they'll lie because they're so embittered that they're somewhere else rather than spending time here.

[That gets her to laugh.]

Just 'Korrin', please. I suppose I'll have to go see for myself, won't I? As far as I'm aware, there aren't any other horned women about, so you'll know what to look for anyway.

Oh - are you a qunari?

That's what people usually call me, yes. Vashoth is more accurate, but no one ever remembers that. 'Qunari' is fine.

What's the difference?

[She doesn't seem at all offended, more interested in explanation than blame.]

Vashoth are those who never lived under the Qun. Tal-Vashoth were Qunari, but left. It's like...well, like calling every mage in Tevinter a magister. You could, but it wouldn't be correct.

Oh - wait, isn't every mage in Tevinter a magister?

Ask Dorian that, I'm sure he'll love it.

[She may not know him that well personally, but that's one thing that's stood out from overhearing him.]

Dorian? Who's that?

A Tevinter mage; has nice hair and a mustache, was one of the Herald's companions. That's about all I know of him, really. That and the magister thing.

I thought we didn't really like Tevinter. But we let him on? I guess I don't know much about that whole situation.

[ SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SITUATION. ]

I'm pretty sure he's not officially here on their behalf, though. Which is just as well. Honestly, I don't care where he's from. As long as he's willing to pull his weight -and he has- then that's what's important. I'd say the same for anyone else who's part of the Inquisition, too.

Of course it's a draw. You're obviously not a sophisticated drinker unless you're enjoying things that less sophisticated people wouldn't. And I'd say that most people don't like drinking straw, right?

Right... [ No. Nonsense. But still: gentle. ] Where are the West Hills, precisely? Everything about this sounds Orlesian, except the name.

Ferelden. Up in the north, I think.

[ Actual, truthful answer: she has no idea. ]

I think it's probably Orlesians who are managing distribution. The descriptions we got were so fussy.

If Fereldans were handling it, it would be "West Hill Brandy. Tastes like brandy, from the West Hills." [ What is patriotism? Not something for Circle mages to worry about, that's what. ]
