FORM: Crystal
SENDER: Allumin
RECIPIENT: Everybody in Riftwatch
NOTES: gay panic in a couple threads (kinda spicy)
um, hello? [the voice is very soft and nervous at first.]
Pardon my anxiousness, I'm, ah, not used to this kind of communication being so... open?
I was told I'd need a staff and some guidance in order to use my own magic properly here. The general outlook on mages, however, has me doubting if devoting the time is a good idea or if I should focus my efforts elsewhere. However, if it's not as bad as I'm making it out to be in my head, and someone were interested and able in assisting me, I'd be happy to discuss fair compensation for your time.
Also, upon some recent reflection, I suppose I should offer myself up to one of the divisions of Riftwatch - not Diplomacy though, I'm not equipped for that.

[ The voice that comes next is mild, analogue-Scottish, very lightly amused. ]
You'll choose not to be a mage?

It wouldn't make me happy but it'd make me useful.

[ A pause, as he contemplates the many things he could address here. ]
If your concern is for the 'general outlook', then you should know the common man sees no difference between a proficient mage and a poor one. He'll fear them both.

Many mages native to this land have worked towards the same thing. It is a recent history, but worth heeding. And I happen to believe very strongly that magic is most feared when kept hidden, and appreciated when honed.
My name is Marcus. I was a senior enchanter of the Starkhaven Circle. My magics are elemental, mainly, but I've tutored many different kinds of mages. Rifters are new to me, still, but you may seek me if you've no better offer.

Allumin. I mostly studied teleportation and planar magics and their possible applications for creating accessible travel for people, especially those unable to use those magics themselves. But I've studied a bit in a few other kinds for preparedness-sake. I'm not sure what will be useful here or that I'll even still be able to do with practice, but I appreciate your offer all the same. Thank you.

in real life, invisible to voice-only communication, Marcus tips his head, because none of that sounds familiar. ]
I'm not a theorist or academic, [ after a beat. ] There are those here who may be of better assistance in such finer points.
But, I am adept in spellwork using a staff. If you would like to be shown the basics, I can be found in the training yard most mornings.

Oh, yes - sorry, I was trying not to talk too much, that is a problem I have sometimes. I didn't mean for it to seem like I misunderstood your meaning, I was just trying to be transparent about my own experience.
I would appreciate that and I'll be sure to find you. Some spells I know are elemental and combat-focused - self-defense and all that, so guidance on how to use a staff would be nice.
I'm, um, hard to miss. I'm a tall elf. Usually wearing blue.

[ Helping. You're fine, kid. ]
And I'll hail you, then, when I see you.

Thank you, I appreciate that. [Nailed it.]
