Report | Hare Coursing

SUBJECT: Hare Coursing
PARTICIPANTS: Athessa, Byerly, Edgard, Erik, Mado, Noon, Sawbones, Sidony, Vanadi
CLASSIFICATION: Public
DATE FILED: Early- to Mid-Drakonis
STATUS: Ongoing
SUMMARY: Over the course of multiple separate investigations which all ended up being related, Erik, Vanadi, Noon, Edgard, Mado, Sidony, Sawbones, Byerly, and Athessa helped to take down a shadow cabal of bored nobles who were hunting elves for sport in Kirkwall and closed down the brothel that was supplying the nobles with, as they put it, chattel.

Noon, Vanadi and I came across a girl from the Alienage being assaulted by someone in a cloak. Vanadi and Noon chased after; I took the girl home, where I found the Alienage locked and unguarded. Discussion with her family led to knowing that another girl recently disappeared from the Alienage and no one with the Guard was investigating. No guard returned to the gate while I was there. I reported this information to Byerly that same evening. Vanadi and Noon retrieved a ring from the person in the cloak who lost them in Hightown.

A little research got us to locate Ambrose Warrick, a nobleman with a modest estate in Hightown. He confirmed that the ring was his, but that he gifted it to Giordano Allard, a friend of his.

Edgard and Mado found the body of a strangled elven girl and discovered that a man named Reynard (who is with the City Watch) paid to have strangled bodies removed from the scenes of the crime, more than once. Strangler probably wore a ring. They also found a copper button with the body.

Button belonged to: Warrick
Ring belonged to: Warrick, was gifted to Allard at some point prior to Noon & Vanadi's run-in with the man

Warrick returned home a month before disheveled and replacing buttons on a vest from copper to gold. Also sent ring to be polished so this must be before Allard received it.

Overheard gossip in Lowtown by Sister Sera and Madame Rutyer mentioned missing persons in the Alienage and Lowtown; also concerns about the Crimson Cat, its new backer after the death of the prior patron, Devigny, and the Guard being asked to look away from criminal activities there (abuse of workers likely).

Further investigation of the Crimson Cat found that the employed were mostly being blackmailed/held against their will and very few were seen outside of the brothel's walls. Elven girl I was told went missing and the Guard determined 'ran away with the Dalish' described by one of the older workers as a new employee unable to leave.

Letters in the possession of Madame Lette (of the Crimson Cat) found on the property while we found and freed the girl who'd disappeared from the Alienage, determined the following were involved in a massive conspiracy to kidnap people and hunt them for sport:

- Devigny (deceased noble)
- Madame Lette (madame of CC)
- Ambrose Warrick (noble)
- Giordano Allard (noble)
- Dario Costantini (noble)
- Paulie Brioschi (noble)
- Baldric Spada (employee of Madame Lette)

Reynard, of the City Watch, bought expensive gifts from vendors in Hightown over the past year; likely bribed by Devigny and then again by Warrick. Informed higher-ups in the City Watch that Reynard was dirty; apparently, there has been some foreknowledge of this and other CW members are willing to speak against the ones taking bribes.

NEXT STEPS: Can the Crimson Cat be closed already?
