SUBJECT: From Riftwatch With Love
PARTICIPANTS: Bastien, Laura Kint, Marcus Rowntree, Obeiscence Barrow
CLASSIFICATION: Private to Division Heads
DATE FILED: Mid-August
STATUS:Complete Ongoing
SUMMARY: In the aftermath of an Abomination attack on the Gallows, a group of Riftwatch agents investigated further. This man was formerly Felix Naegle, who came accusing Riftwatch of its failure to help him. Using the phylactery found on his person, the agents tracked down his family to discover them under the care of Templars. By using undercover identifies, they determined that Felix and his wife, Catrin, were wanted for murder, and Catrin would be serving time on the frontlines of the Exalted March, her daughter placed under unknown arrangements. An attempt to liberate Catrin from the Templars failed, and she chose not to return with the agents, and accept her sentence. As for the connection to Riftwatch, Catrin claimed that she and Felix were also agents.
REPORT: The Abomination that occurred on the First of August, 9:46, was a mage named Felix Naegle. On his person was collected a phylactery, a child's bracelet, a letter, and sundry effects. This letter was addressed from "Riftwatch" and addressed Felix with familiarity and said to meet in Wildervale and help would be on its way. Witnesses in the moments before Felix succumbed to possession report that he accused Riftwatch of its collective failure to help him. He also cried the name 'Livia'. It is confirmed no such correspondence exists in Riftwatch's records.
Agents as rostered used the phylactery to track down those connected to Felix. This was Catrin Naegle, his wife in common law. She was accompanied by their daughter Livia. They were both under custody of Templars Belsant and Klein who had intended to capture Felix as well. We (the agents) disguised our affiliation with Riftwatch to understand the circumstance of which Catrin was in and posed as travelling mercenaries and traders so as to speak to both Templars and Catrin. It was found that Catrin and Felix were wanted for the murder of Sister Aislinn Madigan of Ferelden. Catrin was consigned to service in the Exalted March and her daughter to be given over to unknown arrangements.
Catrin also disclosed that she and her husband considered themselves to be Riftwatch agents in contact with Scoutmaster Yseult, and had been so for months. She reported that were promised by Riftwatch to come under our protection and live in obscurity. In light of this, the agents attempted to liberate her and her daughter from capture, but were unsuccessful in doing so in secret. Due to her sustained distrust in Riftwatch (as it was made known to her that Felix had perished), Catrin chose instead to submit to her sentence.
Later preliminary investigation that Riftwatch has no evidence of Felix and Catrin's employ, nor does Scoutmaster Yseult know of them.
NEXT STEPS: To discover the failure of communication between these mages and Riftwatch, and their belief of their employ with Riftwatch, and what has motivated this failure. I suggest a full review of Riftwatch correspondence dating through the past few months and to re-establish contact with Catrin for further information.
