crystal ➵ div heads

FORM: 'Crystal'
SENDER: Thranduil
RECIPIENT: Division Heads (Thranduil, Herian, Yseult, Coupe)
NOTES: Re: + Pre- deathplot reveal.

We have lost one in five.

[ there's not much more to say. he has, at least, collected himself beyond the briefly visible if profound despair that had caught him at the announcement by the rescue team. ]

[ when you swing a hammer, you feel the blow before anything.

impact precedes recognition, before the weight of your arm registers an end to its arc; already well into recoil. this is the strike, she thinks, when the first report comes in: vanished. this is the strike, when she watches them leave: rescue.
]

Five anchors, five mages. Most of the wardens. [ a wife, whatever the rivaini would pass for ] We cannot expect reinforcements.

[ this is the strike, and they're dead, and she's still waiting for the bones to jar. for the rest of her to know that it's hit. ]

We may lose more as a result.

[ a little slow. but she is always cool and distant by default, isn't she? ]

We will need to rework a number of operations.

I think a service to honour our dead is necessary before we look to administrative concerns.

Not all the work will wait. But I don't know that we need anything so drastic, yet. We first need to restaff or redraw the existing plans that would have included-- them.

No. You're both right, but—

( it doesn't sit well with her, sit comfortably, addressing this all as business.

Then again, Thranduil has lost his wife. Who is she to lecture him on being unconcerned with the cost of people in all this?

She sighs. )

Some of our people are in mourning. Admirable as your focus is, Provost, not all are able to lean into such a thing, and we may need to take the needs of our surviving people into account before work can easily proceed with the day to day.

While I do not dispute this, the Scoutmaster speaks true: There are those who will not linger when such a thing is done — it may be as a memorial would signal too, their parting of ways.

We must anticipate some to seek Deshaies. That may wound us further.

Half of Orlais is in mourning. [ Sharp compared with her usual studied mildness. ] The war does not wait.

We should announce we're formulating a plan to investigate Deshaies. It may stall some.

Beyond that, I would Val Chevin is most pressing. We need intelligence, on land and by sea. Our networks must be shifted to account for enemy access to the Waking Sea and the northern routes into Orlais having been cut off.
