So, I'm a rifter.
[ In Kitty's last post, she'd played rather coy about her rifter identity. That is, evidently, over. She's coming at you now all honest and earnest and polite. ]
And that means I don't know this world so well. But I do know that it's a complete mess, and that I'd like to help during my time here. Which apparently is going to be quite temporary, as several of you informed me like I was to blame for it, so thanks for that, belatedly.
[ People who are jerks to rifters: you know who you are. ]
So please - tell me a bit about where I can help. Tell me about where the problems in this world really are. I know the big stuff - people being wretched and cruel to elves, the struggle over mages' rights - but there's a lot of smaller stuff I imagine I don't know about. And that I bet other rifters don't know about, either - I've also heard people complaining about rifters not helping enough, but I imagine a lot of it is that people don't even know how to start.
[ Oh, and - ] Please don't try to be funny, thanks. I'm not going to be doing anyone's washing up. Give me real, useful answers.
[ And so ends today's Campaign for Please Be Nice To Rifters And Don't Phylactery Us XOXO Kitty Jones. ]

Hi there, lemme tell you one thing that's important, apparently everyone is god damn listening on these things, you have a conversation with one person and then suddenly BAM, you're arrested.
What was I saying....oh, ok, you want some real advice, Can't speak for others, but some people say to keep your head down, I've never been able to just allow bad things to happen though.
I forget where I was going with this, this has been a rough day and I'm halfway through a bottle of...something. It's flamable, I know that much!
no subject
[ Uh - ]
What did you get arrested for?

Well, perhaps we ought to begin with what it is you do?
Suggesting a literal world of potential good deeds is a bit much to ask of any person, so lets narrow that field down a bit. We can exclude anything of note, anything political on the grand scale, and anything involving the Game, as you would not be invited to participate.
Do you wish to improve communities? The state of the Gallows? Or simply acquire a job?
[There's a brief pause.]
To start, however, I would suggest not referring to "this world" as a "complete mess". A person might take some offense to the judgment inherent in that tone.

Setting aside his (reasonable) questions for the moment, she responds with: ]
They might. But I doubt they'd disagree with me. I mean - do you think I'm wrong?

That was terribly close to trying to be funny, which I requested that you not do. [ Her tone is lofty, though - she's more mock-annoyed than actually annoyed. More seriously - ] And I'm not looking for the simplest thing, am I. I'm looking for something real. Kindness is all well and good, but it's not going to make real changes.

I am so very pleased that our short conversation about the general importance of not being reactionary and resorting to childish threats and insults when you hear things you do not wish to or are treated in a manner you find objectionable made such a profound impact on your behavior.
My advice remains largely the same. Respect your situation as a recent guest in our world, stop asking to be accepted with no intention of being accepting, take in information without immediately starting a public tiff about anything you’ve immediately decided you dislike with every fiber of your being, and for the Maker’s sake, remove the chip from your shoulder and stop making absurd dramatic threats to people you know nothing about. We all, who can hear you via this network, have chosen to aid the Inquisition. You have enough enemies in this world by simple virtue of your existence without so determinedly making more of those who ought to be allies.

No one's going to be impressed by me pretending to be giggly and sweet. And if they are impressed by me pretending to be giggly and sweet, then they were two-faced and untrustworthy to begin with. I want real input from real people, not pretty lies. And if I've got a year to live, I certainly don't want to spend that time as a fake.

What are your skills? Applying yourself to a job would require knowing where your abilities best lie.
no subject
[ Fortunately, she doesn't know the accent well enough to get hostile right off the bat. ]
I've got lots of skills that won't be useful here. Baking and car repair and touch-typing. Mostly what I've got that's useful is wanting to learn things, and being a quick study.

As for where to help, there's always something that needs doing around the Gallows, but it would help to know what you did before you came here.

And as for what I did...I was a shopgirl. So those aren't going to be useful skills, I'm afraid.

Such complaints seem rather unfounded, from my point of view. The vast majority have been contributing beyond sealing rifts, which in itself is a boon few natives possess. I certainly hope no one would expect you to solve all our problems.
no subject
Say that a bit louder, please. Mostly what I've been getting is a lot of noise about how we're shiftless and ungrateful and going to dissolve into nothing soon regardless so what's the point of even investing any time in getting to know me. It's all very irritating.

The alienage.
Elves make up likely a fourth of this world that's not being utilized for the fight. [ because racists. of course, this is far from his real motivation for helping them, but with so many saying focusing on Corypheus is the main goal, saying it this way fits better. ]

But it is a distinction of little consequence. Knight-Enchanter Voss speaks correctly, our priority must remain Corypheus. As a matter of manpower and resources, we cannot set an entire city to rights. Would that it were so. The Chantry has spent centuries at it; we are far less well-funded.
I do not wish to deter you — certain parties make a project of assisting citizens in their downtime. As to immediate skills of value, I might consider the acquisition of language. Orlesian, certainly. Perhaps Antivan. Ander. The roots of Old Tevene.
private;
How does someone...go about learning a language? [ A little bit bashfully - ] Never really done that before.

But to speak only of these are but the scratch upon the face of history! To get to the meat of her, one must truly exhume. Now, you might accomplish this merely by reading. Which you have been doing, I assume, yes? Or else you would not have wasted the collective time of all remembers of the Inquisition, to ask us to solve your problem of finding problems to be solved! No, you would not do that, my friend. You would be-- [what is the word] --no, you would act. Proactively.
no subject
Yeah, of course I've been reading. [ And also she is NOT YOUR FRIEND YET, why are you like this. ] But books are written from a certain perspective. And I want to learn more perspectives.
