( A quiet clearing of the throat; one can naturally assume it is a very beautiful clearing of the throat, done by a very beautiful man. )

This matter of the phylacteries for rifters… it seems sensible. If they are such a valuable resource to the Inquisition, the closing of rifts, and so on, being able to find said resource if a rival power were to try and overpower them and abscond with them makes sense, I think. For their own safety, for our own safety. If Corypheus and his forces were, for example, to make an attack on a party closing a rift and kidnap those rifters for nefarious purposes, it would be better for all if we were able to find them as quickly as possible. The phylacteries are an established way of doing just this, no?

By all means, if you wish to see the world end, protest. Even if this is not your world, though, I think we can all agree that you are currently in it. It’s fate is not entirely irrelevant to you.

Attacking her tone, not her opinion. Very smart. Makes you seem much more reasonable.

two can play at that game, dick.

Slavery is quite illegal in all civilized parts of Thedas and has been for centuries. The Inquisition devotes a not-inconsiderable portion of its resources to combatting those who would sell others into bondage. It is utterly absurd to suggest it would now take up the practice itself.

And sarcasm in the face of warranted hostility isn't going to help any Rifter see your side, either. We do not have to make our case to you.

I'm not in charge so I don't make the rules. If a punishment has to happen at least make it something like cleaning an area. I'm sure they'll be unhappy with that outcome too but hey at least they are helping the community. Demotions are more common where I'm from if you do something big or being put to jail for refusing orders.

If they are flip flopping I have no control over their opinions. Everyone has them including yourself.

I have no powers. Besides for helping to close rifts to keep the demons away from this world. I won't be making threats. I'm pretty harmless. [ He could bring up that if enough of them refused to close the rifts it would cause a lot of unwanted pain and killings everywhere. But he's picking his battles. ] If other Rifters are making threats, again, that's on them. I would rather try to gain trust.

Less valid, yes. This topic is not an even playing field, not when non-mages have never had it required of them. Until that day comes -and let us be honest, it never will- you will not understand it for the violation it is. Mages who have committed atrocities against others should indeed be dealt with and I would never argue otherwise. However, I thoroughly disagree that suffering justifies this course of action.

And I do not believe in preemptive punishing, let me make that clear. An individual who has committed no crimes to date should not be treated as a potential criminal. Perhaps you can live with that level of paranoia, but I don't believe it will lead anywhere productive.

Do you think you're the first any of us has heard this "for your own safety" "because you're dangerous" "think of everyone else" malarkey from? You're poking at a hornet's nest and acting surprised that you've been swarmed. If you cared at all about Rifters, as you seem to want us to believe you do, you'd give them time to calm down and think rationally without feeling like they have to be ready to defend themselves and their personhood every two seconds. Not all of them are diplomats, able to take bullshit and answer it with a smile.

[Clearing her throat.]

Again, go fuck yourself.

Sure, critique my swearing and just slither around the fact that you don't fucking care about the rights of anyone involved. If you don't like the way I voice my opinion, then don't make announcements that anyone can respond to.

Guess what, phylacteries aren't fucking civilized either.

Ah, but they have them not and so they are simply another factor to hold my concern. My having one will not spare me their torment should it come to pass, it is merely another avenue by which that torment can be suffered.

I still see no advantage to having one made.

You can give them a different punishment. Something that's dirtier or send them out on a task that has a time limit. I don't know why you chose to be fixated on the cleaning alone. I've been manipulated by a friend before who then decided to help in our cause but ended up doing maintenance work until she had a chance to prove her actual worth because she wasn't trusted and couldn't leave the base. She showed us that she wouldn't turn us over to the other organization we had problems with as well as helped in our cause.

The punishment could be equal to what they refuse. Even if we may not want to be part of this world, we are part of this world. So why not try to help it?

And how might you step in, then? If it is a mitigating factor, how would a phylactery protect me from these terrors should they come to pass?

If I am taken and all you fear is realized, what purpose will this phial serve?

In this case, no, your concerns need not be voiced. ❰ blunt, entirely unconcerned with his feelings on the matter — no fade no opinion. ❱ They have already been given voice, since this proposal exists at all. The discussion of whether to implement it needs now be between Rifters and the leadership of the Inquisition. If you trust the Inquisition so much, trust that it will speak for you.

As for the threats... ❰ deeeeep sigh. ❱ They're afraid and on the defensive. They aren't thinking anything through clearly. As if any of us would be enough of a danger to faze the Inquisition — they're adding fuel to the Inquisition's fire, and none of them seem to realize.

All things considered, the punishment would be solely up to who ever is running or in charge. The General was the one that made that decision, kept her away from places that would have important information. My world is much more advanced in technology. Sending signals to the enemy is something that could have happened. I'm a pilot back home but here I could easily be a ground trooper with training on weaponary here. I would rather be doing something than sitting on my hands doing nothing.

My name is Poe Dameron. And yours? [ He can be reckless for his beliefs. He'll always fight for freedom and hope. ]

Whether it could help you would depend on what had gone wrong and how badly. But either way it could help protect other people. I'll assume, for the sake of good faith, you have some interest in that.
laurenande: (pic#9667155)

[personal profile] laurenande 2018-05-10 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
In good faith, indeed! The Inquisition is so terribly filled with good faith, is it not?

[Galadriel laughs then and, truly, it is a sound filled with no small amount of sorrow.]

If it is to kill me, you need only say it. Unfortunately, if I am taken alive, you might find my slaughter to be more difficult than that of my captors.

You do not trust me, and that is fine, but I shall not put forth a performance to convince you. I shall permit no phial to be made, nor to be kept, and shall tend to my own protection as I have ere the days of dawn. I have been a bulwark against the shadow for too long to simply permit someone else to dictate the terms of my safety, least of all mortal Men.

I thank you for your views, but now I expect your time is better spent elsewhere. You will not convince me.

Serah Shivana.... ?

[The tone is respectful, and surprisingly for Mal, hesitant. Myr is a known Loyalist and a respected one. It's not unlike approaching a Senior Enchanter to Mal.]

I, ah, heard that there was a project dealing with crystals ... and what could be done with them and I was wondering, er, had anyone considered or tried ...tracking spells on those instead?
