(There is some good in this world.)

FORM: Sending Crystal/Action
SENDER: Maedhros
RECIPIENT: Everyone with a Crystal and/or anyone in Kirkwall.
WHAT: Belatedly showing off his new mount.
WHEN: Backdated to earlier in the month.
WHERE: Kirkwall
NOTES: Rúnya is cute.

(It is so very rare to see Maedhros relaxed and smiling. The expression erases the formidability of his features and makes his blue eyes shine. (Of course his expression can only be seen in person.) His voice, however, can be heard and it is warmer and softer; less terse and challenging.

What is the cause of this transformation, one might ask? A Red Hart is standing near the Elf, enjoying a good brushing on his copper coat. The sound of the brush can be heard over the Crystal - as well as the low sounds of a content Hart.)

This is Maedhros and I have someone new to introduce. He is my chosen mount and his name is Rúnya. I have already ridden him into battle; he handled himself well. I did not know what to make of the Harts, but he is extraordinary. (He pats the Hart's side and gathers a handful of treats from his pocket.) I want to remind everyone that I run a Forge. I can repair and make most weapons and armor. Those items that exist outside of my knowledge I will learn of and repair to the best of my ability.

(With the treats given, he lifts himself easily onto Rúnya's saddle.)

If there is no pressing need for my services at present, I will take myself on a quest. (He has read many tomes on dragons and he has lost his heart to hunt them as viciously as he had first intended. They are not like their Arda counterparts.) Until I depart, you can either find me at the Forge or in Lowtown. I am nearly finished with a project there.

(Instead of moping over the loss of his brother and foster-son, Maedhros has been building better housing for the children of Lowtown.)

[ Oh, now here is a man d'Artagnan ought to know. ]

He's beautiful. Your stag...did you call it a Hart?

[ It looks like a stag. Well, more or less, anyway. It's not the most important part of what he's saying, but it's impossible not to be drawn by such an animal. D'Artagnan's smiles go between both of them. ]

I'm in need of a smith. I use swords and knives, of course, but pistols aren't common here and mine will be useless if I can't restock it.

[ Finally pulling his eyes from the Hart, he stops to turn to Maedhros, and draw a pouch with a number of small iron balls inside. ]

It fires these. Do you suppose you could make them?

Somewhat, I suppose. Like a much smaller cannon.

[ He moves to pull the gun itself from his belt, and offer it to the other. It's the typical kind that every soldier uses where d'Artagnan's from; a standard wheellock pistol, currently unloaded. ]

The balls go in here. [ He points to the end. ] It uses powder and fuses to light, and then fire the ball out when you pull the trigger. The powder is another thing I'm lacking, unfortunately. I'm still not certain what to do about that.

That's exactly what I need.

[ If it's even possible, in a world that never developed such a thing.

Perhaps they just haven't developed it yet, though, and if they have the end point to work back from, it might still be possible.
]

I'd be grateful for your help. Have you seen anything here that works like the powder I described? Where I'm from we call it black powder, or gunpowder. It's changed everything about how soldiers fight in my world.
