It was in the Deep Roads, when my company was accompanying a dwarven expedition. I swear we ran into the world's most stubborn one, it wouldn't let us through the route we needed to go. And in the Deep Roads, it's dangerous to deviate. But so was taking on that thing; I still have the scars.

What, to wear a uniform and have a specific rank? I'm more effective just the way I am. Honestly, it's better for the Inquisition and me if I have flexibility. I'm in this to the end, either way.

I admit little familiarity with those companies outside Orlais,

[ even those in a rather limited context. a certain amount of apostate activity was always to be tolerated — when useful, when backed by the appropriate parties, when it toed certain lines and kept itself from view. but lines blur. usefulness fades. ]

Speaking of Orlais, I've worked there before countless times. My favorite memory is when my company worked for this snooty-as-hell, bigoted and stingy asshole of a noble who refused to pay us for our services. Apparently he thought he could get away with doing so since 'they're just oxmen'. When we protested, he threatened to call the town guard. So, we left...well, most of us did. A few of us stayed behind long enough to pay a visit to that statue of his ancestor that he was always bragging about. And by that I mean we blew its fucking head off. He never caught us, either. I consider that payment enough.
