I never thought I would return to live in this city, of all places.

[Fenris sounds less than thrilled. But he’s at least trying out this ‘communication’ thing for once. Varric would be so proud.]

How do you know when you’re truly home? What makes that different from merely a place where you happen to live?

[Honestly curious here. He’d once thought he’d almost come close to that before in Kirkwall, but at the moment, he’s not so sure. Maybe there’s just something... off... about returning to a place after a long time away. So much changes and yet remains the same all at once.]

Vague, but... I probably shouldn't be surprised that there's such freedom in how it's defined.

[Which isn't a bad thing, in itself, freedom is always better as opposed to the alternative.]

No one person feels the same about where they belong and how they fit there, so it is, by nature, a vague concept.

A vague concept with no clear answer. I've come across more and more of these over time.

Alas, that is the nature of things so subjective.

Perhaps rather than asking something so broad to others, ask yourself instead where you feel most at ease.

I don't know that there's any single answer I could give to that. [A slight pause.] I'm still getting used to being settled in one place again.

[Is that what he wants? Is it something he can keep with, for the long term? He'd thought he was starting to get a bit more settled the last time he'd lived in this city. But he's not completely sure. It's not like he's had many stable places to compare to it.]

It is not an easy question to find the answer to. Many go their whole lives without knowing.

[A small pause.]

If it is any assurance, you do not seem the kind of person the answer will elude forever.

You think so? Even though I've spent my entire life not having a place like that?

[Maybe he can't see it himself, but he does find it... rather interesting that he would say such a thing.]

Are you asking for affirmation ...

... or elaboration?

I guess it was more to affirm that it's possible... even if it may not seem that way. Though, is there anything to elaborate on?
