I can see little difference between them and the Dwarves of Arda. [Someone's tongue is loose (and it likely wasn't caused by alcohol).] How anyone can stand to be in their presence is beyond me. I refuse to turn my back on any of them. It is a wonder we haven't all been slaughtered in our sleep!

[The crystal is suddenly of great interest and Thingol touches it, moving it about between his graceful hands.]

I do not mind losing my crown, my kingdom, my wife, my daughter - [No, clearly he does mind those things. A lot.] But must I spend time in the same land as those who saw to my brutal death?

I admit the experience has made me rather short-sighted. [And to think he and the Dwarves were once on friendly terms.] I caution you against putting any stock in cursed jewels should you find any within our...Kirkwall.

But cursed jewels always turn out well. How could we ever suspect they might not? What next, you'll be telling us not to step in bear traps? We're not bears, surely they won't harm us.

You do not give due credit to their allure, sir. Once one sets eyes on such jewels, they oft cannot deny them.

Do you regularly come across cursed jewelry where you're from? Are people rich enough that they have no problems using it like that? It seems wasteful.

Tis far more common than it should be on Arda's lands. [And he was drawn to most - if not all - of it.] It is not about being rich; it is about finding the right ore and having Dark intentions.

I'd call any curse more common than it ought to be, but that might be personal preference. But there has to be a decent amount of wealth for people to buy the products enough that there's a market for them, I'd think. Unless, I suppose, you're a miner or their trader. Is that why you came across it?

Fair enough. [He is in agreement, though some curses are worthwhile if they are attached to things of strength or beauty. Okay so he has a problem.] The cursed jewels of which I originally spoke were made by royalty, that is true. They were renowned for their skill in the Forge.

Your royalty must be very, very bored. Or very, very malevolent. I'd get better rulers. Overthrow something based on blood, go with someone who doesn't spend their time making cursed baubles. When you get back, that is.
