This godless Inquistion shan't do.
[ It's not often that the former Knight-Commander speaks via sending crystal, but today he makes an exception. The message Alayre carries is a dire one. ]
Despite our progress thus far as a sustainable military force, I believe now is the time to mention the lack of faith that many our fellow soldiers lack.
Are we not acting upon the Maker's Will? Are we not representatives of Andraste's might as well?
While we indeed call ourselves The Inqusition, I don't believe many of us fully understand the weight that such a title holds if we're not intune with our faith in a greater good.
[ He's quite aware that this message may irk a few people but he's trying to appeal to those willing to make peace with the Maker and renew their faith. Of course many horrible things have been done in Andraste's name and he condemns them. However, he shan't condemn all of his faith as well. ]
Far too many of us shun the teachings that the Chantry provides and just as many make a mockery of Andraste's plight. Little do any of us realize that it will be our faith to see us through the dark times that shall come. This is why I come to you now in concern, allies and friends. I see that our faith lacks the vigor it needs to carry us through.
( ooc: feel free to threadjack and converse! )

However, the Left Hand of the Divine is angry, and her ire is a vicious thing when provoked. )
This Inquisition was brought to bear by Most Holy, Ser, her final wish, born of the great desire she held for peace. Peace is not a privilege exclusive to those who follow Andraste, but a right for every living, breathing person in this world of ours. To accuse the Inquisition of being godless? You speak recklessly.
Do not forget that the Inquisition of the past was not a wholly righteous alliance. To protect Thedas from the tyranny of magic, was it not? A collection of forces, of allies banding together to protect, yes, and in the name of Andrastre, but not all was well done. Do not speak so naively of the past, nor so condemn those who lend their hands and hearts to our aid.
The Maker’s love is a gift for all, and one that I hold close to my heart. As with all gifts, though, they must be freely accepted. That love is held in people’s hearts, that they care enough to protect Thedas and restore peace, that is enough. To believe only those who share our faith are worthy? That there is a right and a wrong way to seek the Maker's grace, setting your own example above others?
That is not the spirit of Andraste at all. It is a shame upon our faith, and the very reason that people hold a rightful suspicion of us.

...You're absolutely correct. It truly isn't. [ He answers after a moment of uneasy silence on his end. ] Neither the Maker or Andraste herself would desire us to continue with this endless cycle of persecution that already transpires now.
We're a coalition of free-minded folk liberated from that kind of blind tyranny.
[ To bad it's hard to erase such tryanny from existence. ]
Forgive me. I spoke far too freely and too inelegantly about a matter dear to us all.
sorry for my slow, serious thinky tags and cooking dinner do not a good combination make
Leliana takes a pause before replying. The Knight Commander's response is not what she anticipated, reason enough for her to carefully consider.
Her tone is a little less harsh, though it could not be called gentle. Careful, perhaps. )
That is my dearest belief. No matter what has transpired, all are beloved in the Maker’s sight. I believe that… regardless of what walk of life we may come from, regardless of what faith steels us, so long as we act with integrity… surely then the Maker would hold us in His own heart.
( Leliana, though, she knows this is condemnation of herself. She is the Divine’s reach, her knife and flame. She is the hand in the dark that stills hands, stops throats and cuts away rot and corruption. Justinia’s intentions were pure, but Leliana’s actions were not. Though she acts to follow the will of the Maker, it has required much of her, the very carving away of the love and the mercy that she deems so precious, that she loved most in her faith.
These are secrets not to be shared, not easily. Not with a man who she might have struck, had he been present. Leliana sighs. To forgive is not easy, but… faith is never easy, and that is a conversation she had only recently. If it were, it would not be faith. )
These are long days, Ser, and they wear each of us thin. Better we find strength in one another, and in our faith, no? Recall the Canticle of Trials.
"Maker, though the darkness comes upon me,
I shall embrace the Light. I shall weather the storm.
I shall endure.
What you have created, no one can tear asunder.”
We must endure. We must create an Inquisition that none can divide, for the sake of protecting all the Maker’s children.
( And finally, she sighs. She is so, so tired. )
The forgiveness you seek is not mine to give. Tongues can leave wounds that take more than a skilful hand and ready poultice to heal.
( tldr she's not about to run to him in slow motion in a field of daisies and give him a hug, but she... understands. )
You're fine!
Since the start of his journey to the Inquisition, Alayre's faith was shaken by all the horrors he endured in Pharos and all that continues in Thedas. This topic of faith is undeniable difficult for him to voice without some anger in his tone. He thinks it's his fragile faith that keeps him strong but there's some uncertainty there.
Alas, he shan't admit that here. ]
I wish to create such an Inquisition but where does one start when faith isn't enough? It's in Thedas's best interest that we're whole but there's so much that still divides us, and I lament since I cannot bring forth the unity I know we desperately need.
I will weather any storm that comes for us but shall others do the same for me, a Templar?
[ That answer is a resounding "No" judging from all he endured. ]
The Maker does indeed protect us all for we are His Children. This I would never dispute and I find myself wanting to erase my ramblings. However, let my folly serve as a prime example of man's arrogance.
Maybe others will learn from it.
