I imagine it'll be more convenient for you to do so directly than have it ferried up to Hightown and carried back to the Gallows, but if you're unable, it can go back in the pile.

I'd personally recommend giving it directly to those in need. I understand lost causes are something of a passion project for many in the Inquisition.
