What a tumultuous time it is in this world. An empire at war, ancient protectors showing what many feel to be their true colors, strangers falling from the sky -- the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I am not of this world, though it bares similarities to my own -- namely a prominent disdain for the other and ridiculous class differences -- as much it it shows its differences. Empires rise and fall; I admittedly have little interest in wars that have played out hundreds of times in similar ways across hundreds of worlds.

However, I do want to know what you find interesting about this world, if you will share.

Yes. One of the Wardens here told me that the darkspawn spend their time in the Deep Roads looking for the archdemons, and that when they lead them out of the Deep Roads, a Blight starts.

They all fit, in their own way. Mortals don't often have a choice in their names.

So then, since you don't consider yourself mortal, that means you do have a choice in your name. So what will it be?

I find that on the whole men generally are, especially when they let money, and rank, and titles go to their heads.

They Grey Wardens would but they can be a secretive group, however Kaisa Daesun was good enough to tell me a great deal. That is how it goes when you have a certain face and assets. I can tell you all that she told me though and introduce you. My studies mean I have to look at almost everything, you can always come find me and keep me company, it does get very dull.

Do people use weapons when they're at war? Yeah, they use weapons, and not just stabby plasma swords. We're talking full scale, guns and spaceships and destroying planets.

Intergalactic space wars that span decades can be frightening, but man, look, the aliens are assholes with some shiny tech, but let me tell you that it's other people that fucked up my life more.

...I mean, if you wanna get super technical, other people fucked up my life because of the alien space war, so it's kind of still their fault...

I work in either of the libraries; the main one in the rotunda has better lighting and more space but it's busier, though you are free to come to the room I share with Korrin if you'd prefer privacy since I work there too when I want total peace and quiet.

I'm no good at naming things. I would just end up choosing the names of scholars and writers from my world, such as Flamel or Marlowe. Or go the simple route and give you a common name like Nicolas or Christopher. No, if you're going to choose your own name, you should settle on something of your own devising. That makes it more personal.

Though not specifically intended, [ he points out, chuckling slightly. ]

[ If not for the fact that she may run off to be injured and then the Spymaster would have their heads, he would set her down. As it is, he can telekinetically pull up a bit of grass and offer it to her, if that's the sort of things nugs eat.

As for Thranduil- well. He stares for a moment. ]

I imagine, [ he says at last, ] that this is the sort of frustration many feel when speaking to me.

[ thranduil assumes that nugs are the sort of beast that eat anything, but does consider the outside a little but more after his little trick. she delicately nibbles at the grass- and then goes for the sleeves of the outsider's shirt. much better.

wryly, because come now, he's doing his best: ] How does it feel?

[ he reaches for the nug, as if to tug the sleeve free of her mouth. he hesitates a hair's breadth away from her; reconsiders; draws back. ]

What did those scholars study? I would find the choice, conscious or not, interesting.

[ She's chewing on his sleeves. The Outsider stares for a moment, almost entirely missing Thranduil's question. So simple an action, and yet it throws him off. The clothing has been his only 'possession' for four thousand years, and it was not clothing he picked. It has seen as much as he has. It likely carries some of the same scent of Void and sea that he does, and-

And this nug is chewing on it, without a care in the world.

He strokes down her back with one long finger, head tilted to the side. For a long moment, he doesn't respond to Thranduil at all -- then, wordlessly, lifts his hand away (still careful to hold the nug with the other) and offers it to him. His eyes flick back up to Thranduil a second later. ]

Oh, well, Nicolas Flamel was an alchemist, who developed what's known as the Philosopher's Stone. It enabled him to enjoy eternal life, but when he discovered that it was in danger of being used for evil, he allowed it to be destroyed; he was well over 650 years old by then, though, so he'd lived a long life. And Christopher Marlowe was a playwright and poet; his most famous work was probably Doctor Faustus, which was about a man agreeing to sell his soul to the Devil in exchange for worldly pleasures.
