Report | Don't Dumat Open Inside
SUBJECT: The Gang Explores A Cursed Temple
PARTICIPANTS: Adrasteia, Laura, Ellis, Tony, Val & Holden
CLASSIFICATION: Public
DATE FILED: Beginning of Cloudreach
STATUS: Complete
SUMMARY: A team went to Ghislain to explore the Temple of Dumat uncovered there last year. In their exploration of the temple, they uncovered evidence of blood magic, including mechanisms in the temple that demanded blood for the agents to travel further into the wings and potentially conjured or sprung illusory traps in later temple rooms, but also blood offerings made to Dumat for unknown purposes. Both teams were able to safely make their way through their respective wings, but the rift remains both corrupted and open.
REPORT: In Adrasteia's hand:
There was the body of a Venatori mage in the hallway to the ritual chamber, presumably the same that the last team who investigated the Temple came across. We found the main ritual chamber to have signs of an explosion that either led to or otherwise facilitated a tear in the Fade that leads to a place of darkness; emanating from it was a sense of oppressive force that made it difficult to speak above a whisper. There were several bodies stacked on one side of the room that are not decomposing in the regular manner.
Separate from this main chamber were two sets of puzzles. One involved bowls and a moon crafted of metal; the other involved several dragon statues. Each puzzle required blood in order to continue. There were then a new set of puzzles, and a labyrinth at the end of these new puzzles. Those that investigated the puzzle with the bowls found their fears within the labyrinth and had to address them directly; those that investigated the puzzle with the dragon statues found themselves confronting happy memories instead.
It is the opinion of both myself and Warden Ellis that further exploration of the Temple of Dumat should include Wardens; also that feeding the mechanisms with the blood of those who are investigating is dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. The Temple's Rift should not be left to be rediscovered by the Venatori or others of Corypheus' forces.
Submitted to the Research department:
A large ceremonial dragon-shaped urn containing chunks of dried ash.
A set of three ceremonial daggers made from black stone; they're all varying lengths and incredibly sharp. The hilts have depictions of a fang, an eye, and a bent figure. The knives have a miasmic magical energy and the set will have to be surrendered to Riftwatch's archives for study and storage
NEXT STEPS: Most pressing issue: the corrupted rift has still not been dealt with and remains open within the temple. Further study is required as to how to draw the corruption from said rift and close it safely. Also there may be some benefit in reviewing the information salvaged alongside original reports for any clues as to the origins of the rift.
