This is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I apologize for the delay in doing so, but I'd like to make an announcement; I've been appointed as the liason for the Rifter population.

For this reason, if you have a concern about a particular Rifter which cannot be peacefully resolved on your own, or if any Rifter has need of information, or support, please don't hesitate to contact me. I know we may not seem like any kind of cohesive group, but you aren't alone. Please, try to remember that.

[He clears his throat, then and continues.]

As for the rest of you, I have a question. Nothing too serious, just a little... oh, call it a thought-exercise: I first heard this one as a child.

If your house was on fire, what's the first thing you'd take out of it?

You may have to modify this question for the Dalish. [ But she at least sounds amused as she says it. ] We don't have houses.

I am informed by a Dalish friend that the correct substitution is an Aravel, although not precisely. Is that right?

It depends, I suppose. I never slept in an aravel, but they are used to store things. If one was on fire, some valuables could be lost.

Then we have that much in common-- that's something, at least.

[Never having really seen a proper Aravel, she's got more than one up on him, but then he's always interested in gaining knowledge.]

I apologize, but I can't recall if we've been introduced?

You didn't live in a house either?

[ Obi-Wan, she will ask you a million questions because you're a rifter and that's super interesting. ]

I don't think so? I'm Ellana.

Not often, no. I lived in the temple, when I was young, and often a cabin on a ship, in years since, but mostly I've traveled. Jedi don't often have the luxury of a permanent residence.

Ellana. Ellana...Ashara? [There are local Dalish and then there's the small clan-group, which is not to be forgotten.] I'm very pleased to make your acquaintance, to be sure.

Oh, did you enjoy traveling? I want to travel all over. Or, well, as much of southern Thedas as I can.

[ Huh. And here she didn't give her clan name on purpose. It comes with certain assumptions sometimes. ]

That's me. And likewise.

[He likes to be informed, if he can possibly be. After a certain Ashara's indiscretion with Galadriel, he'd made it his business to at least find out a few names.]

Much of it was tedious, or dangerous, or... frankly, terrifying. But always a new horizon, a new sky overhead. New people, though whether that was good or bad could be something of an adventure to determine.

And you? Have you enjoyed the traveling you've been able to do, so far?

A new sky? Do you travel through the sky like some of the other rifters? It must be very exciting.

[ As much as Ellana wants to explore, she's not sure she could ever put Thedas to her back and move outward towards other worlds. There is still so much to see in this one. ]

For the most part. They've come with battles and harsh conditions, but I've really enjoyed myself too.

Through the stars, yes. And...It used to be thrilling, I suppose. If you do something often enough, it eventually becomes commonplace.

[Familiarity breeds contempt, as they say.]

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one from a space-worthy civilization. I've met a few, but-- It can be quite an adjustment.

I hope I never take it for granted. Though I guess if I ever do, I'll just have to find a new passion.

[ She's rather easy to please. ]

I'd imagine so. Do you at least have magic where you come from?

I've traveled to many worlds, many places, and while I've seen a good deal that might, in some way resemble magic, I'd never before seen a Mage until I arrived here.

...At which point, I promptly met Korrin Ataash, and have been all the better for it, since. Mages are a phenomenon unique to Thedas, in my experience.

Korrin is the best mage for anyone to meet. Once you see her protect you straight out of a rift, you can see that mages use magic for good.

She made quite an impression, that's for sure.

[It took him a full day to recover from the idea that someone could shoot lightning from their hands and yet be a friend.]

We're very lucky to have her.

I can't imagine what the Inquisition would be like without her.

[ She definitely has way more friends than enemies. ]

You know, I never answered your question. I suppose if I kept my things in an aravel and it was on fire, I'd at least try to get out my journal. It has notes I've been taking, and it would be terrible to have to start from scratch.

You keep a journal?

Yes. It's for note taking as I continue to study elven ruins.

I've been curious about those, myself. They're very ancient, aren't they? Would you mind sharing, what you have?

Yes, they are. From back when the elves had an empire.

[ There's a pause as she considers this. For her, she's always thinking her people are calling her race traitor behind her back, and it gives her pause with things like this. Yet in the end, she usually goes with teaching humans about the elves. The longer the elves hide themselves away, the more time rumors have to grow. ]

I can show you. As long as you don't make fun of my terrible drawings. I tried to copy down the murals and statues. They look pretty bad by comparison.

I wouldn't dare.

This would be... Arlathan? I've been doing my best to absorb what I can of local culture, but most of the documentation contradicts itself, and the people aren't particularly forthcoming.

Elvhenan. Arlathan was one of our cities. There were others, but their names have been lost to time, unfortunately. Maybe they'll be uncovered someday.

[ There's a slight huff of laughter. ]

My people have lost much, and think by sharing our history that we'll somehow lose it too. I disagree. If we reveal more, it can only help humans understand us better, so they don't have to make up wild rumors to fill the gaps.

Information, as they say, has a way of almost wanting to be free. And knowing is almost always better than blind guesses.

[Elvhenan, he repeats to himself quietly, as if to be sure of remembering it.]

I wish I could offer my assistance on that count. Unfortunately, even if I could, my new position will be something of a drain on my time.

I can understand that. Hopefully it's not too much of a burden. But then, I suppose you wouldn't have volunteered if you thought you couldn't handle it.

I'm afraid 'volunteering' was not given to me as an option. I was appointed.

Though, I could have refused, if I felt it necessary.

Oh. Well that sounds a bit stressful. It's good of you to take the job in any case, since you haven't refused.
